How to Upload a YouTube Shorts

 

Uploading YouTube Shorts on Mobile

  1. Open the YouTube app and sign in to your account.

  2. Tap the + (plus) button at the bottom center.

  3. Select Create a Short.

  4. Record a video by holding the record button or tap once to start and again to stop. You can set the video length to 15 or up to 60 seconds using the timer button at the top right.

  5. After recording, tap the tick button to preview and edit your Short.

  6. Tap Next to add a title and choose audience settings.

  7. Tap Upload Short to publish your video.

Uploading YouTube Shorts on Desktop

  1. Go to YouTube Studio and sign in.

  2. Click the Create button at the top-right corner, then choose Upload videos.

  3. Select a video file from your computer that is vertical (9:16 aspect ratio) or square and no longer than 3 minutes (YouTube now allows Shorts up to 3 minutes).

  4. Fill in the video details like title and description. Adding #Shorts in the title or description helps YouTube identify it as a Short.

  5. Publish the video as usual. Note that thumbnail customization for Shorts can only be done via the mobile app

Important Tips

  • Shorts should be vertical or square format, ideally 9:16 aspect ratio.

  • Length should be up to 60 seconds traditionally, but YouTube now supports up to 3 minutes for Shorts.

  • Adding #Shorts in the title or description helps with visibility.

  • On mobile, you can record and upload Shorts directly in the app.

  • On desktop, upload as a regular video but ensure it meets the Shorts criteria36.

This process allows you to upload Shorts efficiently from either device.
