How to Deactivate Your Facebook Account (Temporary)

Deactivating your account hides your profile and content but allows you to reactivate anytime by logging back in.

From the Facebook Mobile App (iPhone or Android)

  • Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines).

  • Go to Settings & Privacy > Accounts Centre (or See more in Accounts Centre).

  • Tap Personal details > Account ownership and control > Deactivation or deletion.

  • Select Deactivate account.

  • Tap Continue and follow the on-screen instructions to confirm.

  • Your account will be deactivated, but you can still use Messenger.

From a Web Browser

  • Log into Facebook.

  • Click your profile picture (top-right), then choose Settings & Privacy > Settings.

  • Click Accounts Centre on the left, then Personal details > Account ownership and control.

  • Select Deactivation or Deletion.

  • Choose Deactivate account, then Continue.

  • Enter your password and confirm deactivation.

How to Delete Your Facebook Account Permanently

Deleting your account removes your profile, photos, posts, and messages permanently. You have a 30-day grace period to cancel deletion by logging back in.

  • Tap the menu icon.

  • Go to Settings & Privacy > Accounts Centre.

  • Tap Personal details > Account ownership and control > Deactivation or deletion.

  • Select Delete account.

  • Tap Continue and follow the instructions to confirm deletion.

  • Log into Facebook.

  • Click your profile picture (top-right), then Settings & Privacy > Settings.

  • Click Accounts Centre > Personal details > Account ownership and control.

  • Select Deactivation or Deletion.

  • Choose Delete account, then Continue.

  • Enter your password and confirm permanent deletion.

Additional Notes

  • Before deleting, you can download your Facebook data to save photos and posts.

  • Deleting your account also deletes Messenger and all messages.

  • Deactivation keeps your data but hides your profile; deletion removes everything permanently.
